I'm 16 … and a half!

I can't tell you the reason why I'm awake so early, but I am and wow, guess what - today I'm 16 and a half! And 16 and a half is quite something when I wasn't supposed to make 16!
I don't see why I can't be like the Queen and celebrate my birthday twice - December's a naff time of year to have a birthday anyway!

Last week, I went down to London for a few things. I got to eat yet more cake with Emma Forbes and Lily came along too which was nice. On Thursday evening, I went to the Ray's of Sunshine concert. It was a really, really good night but I was quite tired by the end of it. It was so funny cos about a dozen different people came up to me and asked "Are you Alice?" - it was so nice to know that people do actually come here and read it (well, I know people read it, but I dont always meet you all). JLS were the main reason I wanted to go and I loved Leona Lewis too.  I didn't really know much about Pixie Lott before the concert although Milly is already a fan, but I just loved her music and the way she performed. It's getting a bit annoying, cos I keep finding things I like and I'm running out of time to start having new things lol. It's a bit like finding a nice restaurant on the last day of your holiday!

On Friday, a friend of ours did a Ulverston school reunion night in aid of the charity and on Saturday, Dad went with the other Simon to receive a cheque from Furness Boxing - thank you everyone x
Ulverston Victoria High School have been very busy supporting my charity and have raised almost £1,000 for us in just a few months.  That's a huge amount and I'm going to their Prize Giving on Tuesday to receive the cheque.  I'm just hoping that I can wake up in a brave mood and get up and say thank you!

Dad's in Sweden with work this week and he sent us some photos and it looks so beautiful. We all went to Stockholm a few years ago and we loved it, but it was so expensive. It was when mum was home educating us and we visited the Vasa, which was a sad story, but it's incredible to look at.  We used to do lots of travelling around to find out about things. Mum hated us sat indoors writing! I think that's why Milly loves her new school so much, they kind of let you learn by going out and doing it, not making you sit in rows doing boring stuff.

Next Thursday, Milly carries the Olympic torch through Keswick and we are all so excited about it. We should really take a bus up there cos there are so many of us and Milly's year at school are all going to support her too, so if the sun can just shine (I will put in an order lol), it will just make it perfect. Well, perfect apart from the fact that her Olympic uniform doesn't fit her and they don't seem to be that interested. Mum spent over half an hour on the phone to the helpline who weren't very helpful. They said to turn up on the day and that there might be a spare uniform on the bus but they couldn't say for definite. They were going to get back to her on Wednesday - she's still waiting lol.

The Thursday afterwards is my Prom. I'm besides myself with excitement and I can't believe that I'm going to get to go. I've still got to find some shoes which is quite difficult as my feet are small, thin and too sore for heels, they need to be completely flat, but as I'm already vertically challenged I'll make a sad sight next to my friends in 4" heels!

In a few weeks time, on 7th July, we are entering a float in Ulverston's Carnival. We've done a design around the Olympics and now all we have to do, is make about a million paper flowers to decorate it lol. Mum has managed to make it into a wine and flower making evening - she thinks that they'll look better after a few glasses (the flowers not the mums)! Anyway, on the day, we need Team Alice VOLUNTEERS to help us out for the afternoon, so let my mum know if you can help. The carnival is fantastic and Ulverston is such a lovely town with little cobbled streets and quaint pubs and stuff.
Don't forget that my charity website is HERE - we've still got bits to add to it, but it's getting there and I'm very excited that we'll be adding a shop soon, so you can all walk around in purple t-shirts, carrying a Mabel mascot lol.

  3. Hi Alice,

Happy 16 1/2 birthday!!!!! Sounds like you have had a really great time with all of the exciting things you have going on. Congratulations to Milly on carrying the Olympic torch. What an honor. I'm sure she'll look wonderful even if she has to wear the uniform that doesn't fit. :) So wish I could come and help your mother and friends make the flowers for the float but unfortuantely I am across the ocean from you. :( I am thrilled for you that you will be going to Prom. I know you will have a blast! I look forward to you getting the shop up on your website. Can't wait to see what you have! Take care and God bless you.

    Love and hugs,

  5. Hello again Alice. Busy as ever! You are fitting so much into your life. More than most people will manage over their life time. Don't worry about the heels they're 'so last year'. Flatties are the way to go and there are so many nice ones out there or you could get you mum to stick some flowers on some while she's at it! By the way happy 16.5 birthday! x

  11. Alice, you go for it on your prom! I'm sure you can find some really pretty flat shoes which will be the envy of all your friends in 4" heels! You can bet they will be by the end of the night anyway when you're still able to walk in them and they're all carrying theirs LOL. They're Trooping the Colour tomorrow, so it seems to me that it's a pretty good choice of weekend for an 'official birthday' for you as well as Her Majesty!

  14. I'm glad you are having a nice time! You really deserve it Alice.
There are lots of really pretty nice flat shoes in highstreet shops, I saw some nice flat ones in impressions the other day but they didn't have my size (I'm a four and half, a 5 is too big and four is too small. Such a hassle trying to find shoes that actually fit me)
YAY for Milly & The Olympic torch, what an amazing feeling that must be. :)
    Have a good weekend!! <3

  15. Wonderful newsy blog post! So glad everything went well in London, and a very very Happy 16.5 Birthday to you gal! I am delighted for you, and it reminded me of being very young when those halves mattered so much then too! Ulverston is a lovely town and I remember well going to the market with my Mam (now Mom!) when I was little! I will get one or two of those purple Tshirts to wear here in Canada :D Now I have one thing to say about the Prom, everyone gets nervous/excited about it, it is a big deal to make your Prom. So don't worry about the flatties, you will be gorgeous I know it, petite and dainty like a fairy princess on your day. I look forward to reading about it. I'll be thinking of you. Have fun, fun, fun, but make sure you rest a lot before that day comes, okay! T X

  18. HAPPY HAPPY 16.5 birthday! I'm glad to hear you had a great time in London. Congrats and best of luck to Milly - what an honour. I hope you get tons of volunteers to help with the paper flowers. Your mother amazes me - is there nothing she can't do - lol! Thanks to your little plug I now really want to visit Ulverston. You'll look stunning in flats at your prom, it's the way to go and I bet your friends will be very pretty but they'll end up kicking off those 4" heels after the first hour. I am so looking forward to getting a charity tshirt so I can tell all and sundry about the fantastic Alice and your crusade to help others. I was feeling pretty down because my precious dog Oliver passed away three weeks ago today and once again I read your blog and I'm smiling. Keep up the good work girl - hugs, love and prayers from M.E. in NB, Canada.

  19. Happy 16 and a half birthday! Sounds like you have been having a lot of fun and have so many wonderful things in store. And, personally, I think it is never too late to find new things to enjoy. Sometimes those things we only get to enjoy a little bit are all the sweeter. I hope you find some beautiful shoes to wear to Prom and feel like a princess! I would love to see a photo of your dress, or (even better) a photo of you wearing your dress. Have fun!

  23. Happy 16 1/2 Alice!! Good luck with finding shoes for your prom. I have a similar problem - my balance isn't fantastic so in high heels I just fall over, and I have really skinny feet so most shoes just don't stay on. But for a wedding recently I found some lovely flat silver ones, they were over but I was able to tie ribbons onto them (there was sort of ribbon running along the sides, which I hooked my own ribbon onto and tied across my feet), they looked really nice. They were from Debenhams, I don't know if you've got one near you.

I went to my graduation ball last night (a bit odd as I failed an exam that I have to re-take so don't actually know yet that I will be graduating!) and wore small heels, everyone else had massive ones but it wasn't a big problem to just be a bit short for an evening. It was mostly sitting down anyway, for the meal and drinks after - I didn't do much dancing - so it wasn't a problem. Hope the same is true for you!

Can't wait to see photos of Milly and the torch. I bet she'll be amazing even if the clothes don't fit perfectly.

  31. Hi there, Alice! Were you awake early, by any chance, because you and Millie had been awarded medals in the Queen's Birthday Honours list?! How cool is that?! It's FANTASTIC! You both deserve it soooo much. Congratulations! Have you got your prom shoes sorted yet? I stupidly posted a bit about some lovely ones "Gold digger" and Silver Lining", from Sock shop, (online), on your 6th June post - the one where you're looking like a princess! I'll be buying an "Alice's Escapes" t shirt asap. In the meantime, I hope you are well enough to enjoy Milly's torch run, and rest up for the prom! Always thinking of you, and sending happy thought to all of your amazing family xx

  32. Alice,

Happy 16 and a half birthday!!! I look forward to seeing what great thing you are doing next! You are an amazing young lady. :) As for the shoes for prom try ballerina slippers. They are flat, soft so they won't hurt your feet and they can be dyed to match your dress.

Hope you have a lovely time at your prom.

Prayers sent your way from Missouri, USA

  33. Happy Birthday!! I didn't realise till today that you and my Kesia share the same birthday - she was 10 and a half on Friday :) We also celebrate half birthdays, so her tea party was on Saturday. I will let her know of your "twinship" as she's often interested in other children through postpals. She's Tom's sibling, though has her own issues. It's lovely to have some support just for her, I know you get that :)
