Oh dear!

Oh dear and I thought that I was just doing a little blog for a few friends!  Thank you so much for all your lovely messages to me.  I don't sleep very well and I sat up all night reading them as they came in from all over the planet, every single one, and they have made me smile so much so that is a good thing.

There isn't a Paypal or Donate button on here, because I didn't mean for this to be such a big thing. It was just so that I could write on here and do the things I wanted to do and my friends could read about it them, which I'm still going to do.  It's nice you're all here too but I really don't want any money giving and we've actually been offered so many wonderful experiences that I've definitely got a lot of exciting days ahead.  My mum was trying to reply to everyone and it all got a bit mad and now we have a little team of friends helping us out so that we can get back to everyone.

I'm excited about the things I am going to be doing, but the biggest thing has to be all the people who are joining bone marrow donation schemes because of me.  I read on someones post that it is really painful.  Well, mostly bone marrow is taken as cells via a needle and I have had it done.  I was 13 when I had my first transplant and because they used my own cells, I had to have them taken out (they call it harvested) and then stored and put back in some months later after more chemo.  I'm not just saying this, but it really didn't hurt at all.  I had a tiny bruise from the needles and that was about it.  I was a bit tired too but I'm always tired so that may not have been the cells.

So, I was never begging and I don't need any money but I do love to get your messages and I hope you'll follow my blog and keep leaving me a message.  I will take a camera with me wherever I go and I'll post photos of everything I do.  In return, you can keep asking everyone you bump into to join the bone marrow donation schemes in your country.

  11. Alice,

I pray, hope and wish for all the best to you and your family and friends. I can't imagine the hardships you're all going through, but I admire that even through it... you maintain such and optimistic and great outlook of life. You value it so much while others complain about it... and that has really touched me.

Keep fighting, being strong... and doing exactly what you're supposed to do with your one life... live it to the fullest and enjoying everyday as best you can!

  19. hi Alice

I landed here, I guess, like most other people because of Twitter.

I just wanted to post, really, to say that for anyone reading this who is worried about joining the Bone Marrow register, then they should simply go ahead and do it.

I donated twice, both to the same little lad (he's overseas, I have never had the opportunity to meet him), who is now healthy and well. I donated by both methods, which is incredibly unusual I was told, and puts me in a very select group. And I just wanted to say that IT DID NOT HURT EITHER WAY. Please please let your readers know this.

The day the letter came to tell me I had been matched, we had our first child. And her name...Alice.

    Good luck and take care,

    Al

I think it'd be a great thing for your list. It's not going to cost anyone anything except a little time. I'll send a photo of our town in Greece if you like!

First read about you yesterday on Twitter.... all I can say is Hooray for the awesome power of social networking.... your courage to blog about your dreams and the challenges you face are inspiring and they also make so many of us stop and take a look at ourselves and I for one will be walking through today feeling a bit more grateful, a bit more brave and a bit more keen to help others in any way that I can. I will be contacting a local children's charity soon to see if I can help anyone else who has the wish to have great photographs taken with their family and friends (I'm a photographer) as I'm too far to help you...but you see.... you're helping others! Well done you and well done to your family for guiding you into being such a wonderful person! x

I hope you have many more good days ahead of you as you face the uncertain future. 73. Hi there Miss Inspiration!! Hope you are manage to get some sleep tonight, but just in case, another little message from me in Perth, Western Australia to you. First of all - swim with sharks? Are you nuts? You know they are the scary ones with big teeth who love a human or two for a little pre-dinner snack? Don't you mean lovely dolphins? If not, you ARE brave!! I so hope you managed to gorge yourself silly on chocolate at Cadbury's World. It is a wondrous place. I was so overcome by all the chocolatey choices in the shop after the tour, I was unable to purchase anything! Oh well, will just have to go back when I move back to the UK next year. They won't let you have an iPad in hospital? How rude! Oh well. In sympathy with you there. I purchased an iPad 2 and haven't been able to use it because my laptop is too old to be compatible with it, so now have to wait until I get a new laptop before I can use my iPad 2. I think learning to become more technologically savvy should be on MY bucket list! Sending you lots of best wishes from Perth! Keep being fabulous!! Lisa

  83. Hi Alice
you are rapidly becoming a very famous person!
The team at Deep Sea World in Fife emailed this information to me this morning:
We have 7 Sand Tiger Sharks which are up to 10.5 feet in length – Tinkerbell being our biggest and she is very friendly. The tank has 4.5 million litres of water and over 1000 species of fish – generally around 14 degrees. She would be diving in a dry suit which is keep her warmer than a wet one. The rays are always very inquisitive and come up to have a look – the divers will try their best to get Alice to touch the plaice and rays (they feel amazing to touch – not slimy at all).
I know Mum said you wouldnt be able to get up to Fife but I am speaking to the RAF to see if they can take you guys up by helicopter! I should hear back from them today so fingers crossed. If anyone reading this has any senior contacts with the RAF please use them.
I can be contacted on nikki@otw.org.uk
Hope you are not being too overwhelmed and let mum know to give me a call if she needs any help.

I have two beautiful daughters and a son around the same age as you and Id love to send you something, just a little pocket money towards your purple Ipad, or anything else which you could use towards your bucket list?? Please please could your mum and dad consider the possibility?

  93. I'm usually fairly cynical but the response to your blog has been incredibly heartwarming. Makes you realise that for the most part human beings are actually pretty decent.

If you're able to travel then there are plenty of places up here in the Highlands that you will be able to see Dolphins and Whales, there's a popular spot just 5 minutes from Inverness that where you can get reasonably close to them. Whales and Basking Sharks are frequently seen along the West Coast and there are Killer Whale pods that roam about the Pentland Firth. There's never a cast iron guarantee that you'll spot them but the scenery alone is usually worth it. Not mention the Sea Eagles, Otters (we have one in the river in Inverness city centre and it's regularly seen during the day), Pine Martens, Capercaillie, Wildcat.. :-)

I work for Visit Scotland so if there's anything you need or if you want to pay a visit up North, then let me know and I'll try and put you in contact with some of our local guides.

You see, I have really been stressing over something lately, but after reading your story I realize that nothing about the concern I have had is going to prevent me from accomplishing any of my dreams. I am so so sorry you won't have the same chance. I hope you can at least get most of them done and that you have a wonderful time! Thank you for helping me to see what a beautiful thing life is and how very thankful I should be!

  172. Honey you're an inspiration and your blog is very humbling. My advice to you at 15: Love your family and friends and tell them every day, make a memory box of all of your favourite things, turn your radio up and dance around in your favourite clothes and sing at the top of your voice as often as you can, don't be afraid to say you are scared or sad - we all are at some point, take every offer of help and every warm hug of love - you won't be alone as there are thousands of people around the World standing by your side, play a lot of practical jokes - they make you laugh more than you'll know ;) , be happy, every life is a different length and that doesn't make it any less magical.

Sending you a huge hug and all my love for an amazing week Alice, you are one in a million.

  174. Alice,
Thank you for sharing your story. It seems you have got quite a following now. The reason you have that following is down to your bravery, honesty and humility.
It would appear that most of the list has been taken care of (!). As a result I have done as you asked. I have registered to give blood and when on my first visit I will register as a Bone Marrow donor. In all honesty it is the very least I can do.

Despite dealing with a really sad subject, I think this blog is already full of life, it's great! I'll definitely stick this blog to my favorites, as I'm sure many others will do too :) I hope you'll have an exciting and eventful (and sunny and warm of course!) summer! Best wishes!

  177. i hope there is some things on your list that people can sort out for you so that you can tick as many as possible. dont know if you can travel but the murryfirth in scotland you can often see whales close to the shoreline & the water around the isle of man has loads of basking sharks i know they are harmless but if that helps as you can touch them from a boat or get in the water with them. best wishes from donna

Warm wishes from Cairns, Queensland, Australia.

I read an article about you on the news on line, which led to your blog. It is great to see such an outpouring of support from all around the world.

I was born and raised in Kenya - so I quite understand your wish to go there. It is a truly amazing, awesome and beautiful country. I am only sorry that you are not currently well enough to travel such a distance. But you may yet be able to - fingers crossed.

Stay strong, keep smiling and know that people everywhere are thinking of you.

  194. Hi Alice
what an inspiration you are indeed!
Just had to send you a message as not only are you so very brave but everything you are interested in reminds me exactly of my daughter and although you are inundated with offers already I would love to offer you help too. I'm a freelance photographer now, teaching photography too, I'd love to help you out with a shoot for you and your friends and you and your lovely Mabel at your home. My daughter trained our border collie Max and he's won quite a few competitions too! I also practiced as a sports and remedial massage therapist for many years so could help you out there too!
We were lucky enough to go orca whale watching in Canada - it was amazing - I truly hope you get to see some whales in your time xx
I have been registered on the bone marrow donors list for over 20 years, I've had only two very close matches in all that time - I guess I'm made of either very common or very rare stuff!
Please mail or call me if I can help at all and very very best wishes to you and your family xxx

  197. Hi Alice

Well I'm sat here in tears reading not just your blog but the amazing response from all around the world. Just reminds you how lovely people can be. I hope you are massively proud to have done so much good out of such an awful situation.

I'm going to sign up to donate bone marrow straight away but also wanted to offer use of our caravan. Its in Cartmel, not far from you. There's a lovely bedroom for you and a friend, one for your Mum and Dad and Mabel would be very welcome too. A stream runs past, it's peaceful and beautiful and the local bakery sells the best pain au chocolat you've ever tasted. If you'd like to stay any time, please let me know. You can find me on facebook (Susie Lee-Kilgariff) or on twitter as TheRealSLK.

Lots of love and hugs to you and your family. Stay strong.

    Susie xx
