Hello :)

Hello :)
It's a bit funny me doing a blog because mum has always done these sort of things and I've never really being interested before.
Most of you know that my scan at Alder Hey wasn't very good and that the cancer is now spreading through my body. It's a pain because there's so much stuff that I still want to do. I guess that my particular cancer is made of strong stuff (which is hard because I know I gave it my all and I'm strong and determined too).
Anyway, mum always tells me that life is what we make of it and so I'm going to make the best of what I have and because there were so many things I still wanted to do, mum suggested that I turn my ideas into a bucket list.  I've not quite finished it yet, as I keep remembering other bits, so I might add things to is as I go along.
I'm not expecting to do everything on it.  Some of the things are just not going to happen because I can't even leave the country now (I'm too much of a risk), but they're on there, because they were on my 'to do' list at some point.  So, I thought it would be fun to have my list online and to tick things off and do a little update on everything I do :)  If anyone has suggestions, please let mum or dad know because they don't know how to do all of it yet.  They're working on it!

There was a break there because I can't figure out how to add a list.  I think I'm going to have to ask mum to do it because she can do anything.  I'll press the post button and then I'll try and post the list through the day.

  4. Hey Alice....
Wow.....i have shivers running down my spine (you know that feeling when you hear a peice of music or song that touches you?) i have that feeling as i have been touched at, not only the response you have received from people reacting to your blog but the humility you show with your acceptance of your situation, in my books you are fab, and i wish i had the courage that you have, to just deal with the less crappy hands life can deal us. you are truely inspiring. i reckon your wish list has been pretty much sorted by reading all the offers given (i found your link via emma bridgewater, again impeccable taste!!!) my small token of help will be buying that mug...unfortunatly can't donate my bone marrow :(. Big love to you and your kin xxx

Do post and let us know what has been organised and what is left I'm sure everyone will pull together to make it happens for you.

Or if you just need someone to help coordinate all the offers I'd be happy to help! My email is rachel.devenport@gmail.com

    Hi Alice,

    I think you're amazing.
I'm going to become a bone marrow donor, I always meant to do it before now as I saw an appeal on behalf of the Anthony Nolan foundation (I think thats right) but I was too lazy then & never followed it through. I'll definately do it now, promise.

  18. Alice,

I am so touched by your take on cancer. It takes a lot of maturity and self-evaluation to be able to face reality. Your Mom has done a great job. She should be proud of the beautiful young woman you have become. I will keep you and your family in my prayers and hope you have a fighting chance to beat this round of cancer. In America, we have Make A Wish Foundation and I think the same foundation is in England. Maybe they can help with some of the bucket list items? Best of luck.

Like you, i've been a bit unwell for the last two years and keep on fighting the fight. Firstly i would like to wish you all the luck in the world with achieving your bucket list, fantastic idea and i am in little doubt you will achieve it - so look forward to your stay at Cadbury's! I know what you mean about not being around too many people! So annoying as we're always worried about catching bugs etc!! Anyway best of luck and all my prayers are with you. 34. Hi Alice,

Does the UK have any foundations like Make a Wish in the U.S.? If so perhaps they can help you with your list.

I know how severe illnesses can change your view on life because my mother has kidney disease and I donated a kidney to her so she could live. I've started doing things I've always wanted to do, such as learn to shoot a gun and play golf. I don't know if you are able to travel or can afford it but Disney World in Florida allows you to swim with sharks. Here's a link: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/typhoon-lagoon/attractions/shark-reef/

Best wishes and I'll keep you and your family in my prayers! You are one brave, inspirational young lady!

We have 800,000 users on the site and hopefully there is one near Ulverston to come and take photographs for you. If not, one of the members from Blackpool said he would pop up. Failing that, I am actually from Ulverston but now live in Plymouth and may be planning a trip to Ulverston this summer to see my parents, who still live there. I would love to meet up with you and Mabel and take some photos if you don't get them done before then. I don't have a portable studio but I'm sure we could find some lovely outdoor places like Ulverston canal, Hoad, Birkrigg or Bardsea as a back drop.

  66. WELCOME TO KENYA!!!! Karibu!

    Hi Alice!

My name is Jen and I am an American Peace Corps volunteer living and working in a Kenyan high school. My uncle knows someone who knows about you and your dream of visiting Kenya. And so, today I found a message from the above mentioned uncle with a link to your amazing blog.

I visited your blog on my internet phone (it's a new peace corps...with all this technology!) while sitting in the staffroom with my Madam Deputy Principle, the English teacher Liz Moki and the secretary for our school, Jicinda. I explained to them what a 'Bucket List' was, your situation and your wish to visit their homeland.

"Let her come to us!" pronounced the deputy. "She must come to us and we will show her Kenya!"

I explained that it was not possible for you to come to Kenya...but...

"Why don't we bring Kenya to Alice?"

"Yes!" said Madam Deputy, "Jennifer (why can't she just call me 'Jen'?) bring in your video camera!"

And so, Alice, Kiaoni Secondary School (located near Kibwezi in Eastern Kenya) is determined to try and bring Kenya to you via videos, pictures, letters and stories.

You know...by the time tomorrow morning comes your name will be on every one of my students lips...news travels fast in a small rural village in the bush! What they will know is that there is a very wonderful "muzungu" (foreigner)girl named Alice that wishes to learn all about what life is like in Kenya. They want to tell you!

So...because the internet is slow here I may have to wait for my next trip to Nairobi or Mombasa to upload pics and videos specific to you, Alice. in the meantime, I have some fun Kenyan stuff to look at on my facebook page. Let me know if you'd like to be "friended" on the Book :-)

Also, I can leave regular updates on life in Kenya here. Please let me know if you have any specific questions about me, Kenya or the great Kenyan people. Madam Deputy said, "What does she wish to know...we will make it our assignment!"

So...I hope you don't mind a Kenyan school adopting you...Karibu (welcome) to Kenya!!!

(If you'd like to email me, I'm at thehappysunday@gmail.com)

Hope to hear from you soon!

    Best wishes,
    Jen

This blog is going to change the world of the donor registry. Most people only sign up to be a potential stem cell donor if they know somebody affected by a disease that could benefit from a transplant. With your inspirational blog, you are reaching out to people and touching them in that way. Thank you for sharing your story on behalf of all the future patients who will benefit from your legacy.

  79. Hi Alice,

I hope you can achieve everything on this list. I'm afraid I'm not much help, but I do show Labradors. The next Labrador-specific show in the North West is probably the North West Labrador Retriever club championship show 09/10/2011. Details will appear on their website soon I expect. If you could travel a little, the Northumberland and Durham Lab Club have a championship show 1/10/11, details are already available for this from http://fossedata.com/entry.asp?ref=NDLR_OCT_11 if you download the schedule it will give you details on how to enter, and you'll see there is a special class for handlers under the age of 18 (Special Graduate). I hope to see you at one of these shows :-)

    Best of luck

I think you are an amazing and couragous young lady. Our 5 year old son Kenton was diagnosed with cancer almost 2 years ago and I was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. His recent MRI showed that the chemo is not working and the cancer is slowly spreading on his brain and spine. As hard as it is we have to except Gods plan for him and enjoy every moment we have. I always say God has BIG plans for kids like him and I believe he also does for you. We will add you to our list when we say our bed-time prayers. You are certainly and inspiration to myself and many others. May God Bless you and your family!

Aloha Alice, you are a very inspiring person, thank you for that=) I am able to share with you a video that was given to me as a gift from a gentleman I met who had the quickness of mind to video dolphins playing in the waters of California. He then went to his home and made something, which for me, is magical. I am touched to the point of tears to be able to meet you in this way and at such a time in your life. While I cannot help you in becoming a dolphin trainer, which was one of my dreams, I can offer you the dolphins.
My love and Aloha to you kind soul, peace be with you on your journey.

  102. Hi Alice,
I read a book about alkalizing and how cancer can NOT grow in an alkaline environment, you can create that environment inside your body.
Alkalize or Die by Theodore A. Baroody, it makes TONS of sense you and your parents should read it. It's fairly short and I know through personal experience my Mom is a 5 time cancer survivor and it's due to her eating habits and rest. I will pray for you and your health. You should read this book boring, interesting and I believe it to be a life saver.

If it were my bucket list I'd add SKY-DIVING to it. I jumped on my 40th birthday and it was as close to heaven as I could get and afterwards I was amazed with the empowerment it gave me. You feel invisible and strong because you look up at the sky and say wow I just jumped out of a perfectly good airplane and I survived!!!!!

God Bless you Alice you're a very brave young lady. I'm now sending you big fat internet hugs.

I hope it will help to tick off some of the boxes of your bucket list.

Meanwhile I hope the reactions will give you fun.

Tomorrow around 4000 cyclists will climb the Alpe d'Huez in France 1 to 6 times each. This way they collect money for scientific research to fight against cancer. They will at least scor 20 million euro's.

  171. Hi Alice,
Good luck with your list- is there a way you could post a link so people could sign up to the bone marrow donor list from your blog to help with No 2? Unfortunately I don't have any skills or spare cash to help with the others, but other Twitterers will, I'm sure. All the best xxx

  173. Hi there,

I think you are showing wonderful courage coping with your illness. I really enjoyed reading your blog. You are clearly a fighter and I really admire your fighting spirit, battling this illness. Stay strong and let's see how many of your bucketlist you can achieve. At the time of me writing this (22:28 on June 8th), #alicebucketlist is currently the NUMBER TWO TRENDING TOPIC WORLDWIDE! How cool is that?! Everybody is right behind you on this fight.

    Good luck Alice! Keep fighting!
    Best wishes,
    Stephen.

  174. Alice,
You are truly inspirational and sound like a fantastic young girl. I cannot believe the strength you have and the determination to do what you really want to do in life.
I'd love to someday be half the young woman you are. People should look up to you. I really hope you get to do most of the things on your list and am envious of the love people have for you.
Also, if you ever meet Take That I HAVE to see a picture, you'd be so lucky!! I could write so much to you on how you've made me want to live life to the fullest but it might be strange seeing as you've never met me haha.
Good luck with everything and keep smiling.
    Much love, Yasmin xx
P.S, if there's anything you think I may be able to help with, feel free to let me know @yhudson

I hope that you get to see and experience some of the things that most of us get a lot longer to do in our lives. Stay stronmg, i know that you have a strong family around you. it was my birthday today and knowing that we can make a difference, no matter how small, to your life is the best gift i have ever had. much love

You have whole world full of people, hoping that you cram a little bit of fun, laughter and silliness into every day - I'm sure that you will be able to tick many thing off your list, and many more that you hadn't even thought of.
I have already registered for bone marrow donation, and your blog is inspiring so many people to do such a simple, but worthwhile thing (tick it off!).
Much love to you and your family

  179. Hi Alice,

Like many have said you are an inspiration, and I hope my daughters grown up to be even half what you have grown up to be.

Tried to apply to be a bone marrow donor, but I have MS, so can't donate, but I have donated a few quid to help Anthony Nolan trust fine people that can donate.

    Good luck

  186. Wow, Alice! I heard about your blog and came on here yesterday when you had a mere 200 or so comments. Now you are all over twitter and FB and inspiring people all over the world. I can't help you with anything on your bucket list but I can see you already have lots of brilliant offers. But you have inspired me to give blood again. I used to do ages ago but then did loads of work in third world countries so they didn't want my blood, then donated a kidney so they didn't want it for a whole year after that. But I'm now nearly 2 years post donation and there is no reason that I can see (stopped the globe trotting!) so have booked in to give blood again next Friday and will also check I'm on the bone marrow registry. I think I am but always best to check. You go girl :)

  194. Hi Alice, glad to see your blog and that you are having lots of fun with loads of things to plan and do.

I guess the truth is that any day can be our last. A couple of my friends died in accidents at your age. They didn't get this chance... and you know what? Miracles DO happen, and you may still beat it.

I'm sending you lots of love and thank you for spreading positivity and that bone marrow request. It's more than a lot of people ever get round to doing.
